Houseman in Menlo Park

PRIMARY PURPOSE and FUNCTION:

The Houseman is responsible for cleanliness and upkeep of the residences and living space grounds of the Property.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for day-to-day cleanliness, maintenance and upkeep of the residences and living space grounds, and regular deep cleaning

  • Make sure the outside furniture is set up (depending on weather; cover as needed); clean outdoor furniture, cushions and their covers daily

  • Clean and upkeep outdoor BBQ area

  • Mop off in-ground pool cover weekly

  • Sweep and wash the patios, terraces, light wells, and hardscape areas

  • Routinely wash interior and exterior windows of buildings on the Estate

  • Participate in Housekeeping team to perform deep cleaning of windows, chandeliers, and hard to reach areas

  • Routine floor care in main house and additional structures, including mopping, soap application on wood floors, and polishing

  • Liaise with the gardeners/landscapers

  • Removal of all cobwebs interior and exteriors of buildings

  • During the holidays: scheduling, setting-up, and breaking down all of the décor that is involved in the desired holiday to be celebrated

  • Assist Housekeepers in polishing of fine china, crystal ware, silver

  • Help to set up tables and serve for daily meals, parties, events as needed

  • Help move furniture, artwork, assemble newly purchased items

  • Take out the trash, recyclables, and compost

  • Keep the inside and outside of the Estate organized, including garages and storage areas

  • Replace batteries in all remotes when needed (keep track of when they were replaced)

  • Drop off/pick up dry-cleaning items

  • Assist with organizing and planning for ongoing residential housekeeping

  • Assist in creating daily, weekly, monthly, seasonal and annual task lists

  • Daily visual inspection of house, pool house, cabana, deck, garage, detail garage, pavilion, and terraces; notify the Facilities Department of any discrepancies to be included on the maintenance log

  • Contribute to the maintenance request log for each Property as necessary

  • Check all of the lights for bulbs not working and notify Facilities Department of their outage

  • Helping to maintain a comprehensive household inventory control list

  • Assist with parties and events at the estate

  • May be expected to perform occasional work and responsibilities at other Properties

  • Occasional shopping as required for personal items, household supplies and groceries as needed

  • Other related duties upon request



SKILLS AND WORK HABITS/ QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in housekeeping for large, multi-staffed homes, with a history of longevity in each position

  • Hands-on cleaning experience

  • Meticulous sense of organization and attention to detail

  • Exceptional references

  • Experience with smart home systems and appliances

  • Tech savvy – able to email, text and use a computer for basic tasks (Mac preferred)

  • Possess valid unrestricted driver’s license, adequate vehicle insurance coverage, and vehicle for use in performing job duties and travel among the Properties

  • Must be able to work on weekends or holidays, as needed; however, work schedule is typically Monday to Friday

  • Be prompt and on time to all meetings, scheduled work and all established timelines

  • Team player and great communicator who is not afraid to ask questions and is open to constructive criticism

  • Flexibility, integrity and creative problem-solving skills

  • Must have and express a positive approach to problems and situations that may arise

  • Must be professional in appearance and demeanor at all times



PHYSICAL DEMANDS and REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able for full-time active work in and around the residence and grounds

  • Able to reach, bend, stoop, lift, carry, move typical household items, e.g., furniture

  • Able to use stairways, household ladder or step stool

  • Able to operate household laundry equipment, cleaning equipment, kitchen appliances

  • Able to use standard computer, telephone and related equipment for communication and recordkeeping

  • Able to provide limited on-call availability and responsiveness during non-business hours

  • Able to travel without personal assistance



Salary: DOE + comprehensive benefit package
