French-speaking Governess in Plato, TX
We are currently seeking an experienced and highly qualified French-speaking Governess for two children (ages 7 & 9 years) in Plano, TX (relocation assistance available). The schedule will be Mon-Fri 7:30am-5:30/6pm. The family travels frequently so you must be flexible and be able to travel.
The family is looking for a candidate with strong educational experience, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to create a structured yet nurturing environment for the children. Professionalism, discretion, and adaptability are key qualities they are prioritizing.
Position Summary: The Governess is responsible for overseeing the education, development, and overall well-being of the children in the household. This role requires providing personalized academic support, nurturing care, and engaging in activities that foster intellectual, emotional, and social growth. The Governess will manage daily routines, assist with schoolwork, and create enriching educational and recreational experiences.
Experience & Education:
Proven experience as a Governess, Nanny, or in a similar childcare/educational role (average tenure of 3–4 years)
Relevant qualifications in education, child development, or a related field
Fluency in multiple languages, with the ability to teach French
Primary Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver educational activities and lessons to support academic progress
Provide guidance with homework and school projects, ensuring subject comprehension
Supervise and nurture children with patience and attentiveness, applying discipline when necessary
Support children’s physical, emotional, and social needs
Organize and oversee daily routines, including mealtimes, bedtimes, extracurricular activities, and appointments
Plan and lead recreational, cultural, and creative activities that promote personal development
Maintain open communication with parents, providing daily updates, feedback, and progress reports
Assist with light household duties related to the children (e.g., preparing snacks, and keeping kids area tidy)
Ensure a safe, healthy environment and manage minor medical needs or emergencies as required.
Required Skills/ Expectations:
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with both children and parents
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Bilingual or trilingual (French and Spanish highly valued)
Patient, nurturing, and dependable with a strong sense of responsibility
Adaptability in managing multiple tasks and changing priorities
Exceptional verbal and written communication
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
High level of discretion, professionalism, and confidentiality
Consistent attendance and punctuality
Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations
Active listening skills and flexibility to travel with the family
Knowledge of child psychology and stages of development
Current certifications in Infant/Child First Aid and CPR
